Babaganaru, who resigned after Kano Pillars’ poor campaign last season, replaces Abdu Maikaba, who has also moved to Akwa United.
He led Kano Pilars to back-to-back league titles three seasons ago.
The Bauchi club will campaign in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
